Immigration Formalities, Passport & Visas
Tourist intending to visit Nepal must hold valid passport and visa.
Tourist entry visa can be obtained for the following duration from Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or other mission offices at your native country or at the following immigration offices in Nepal.
1. Immigration Office- Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu
2. Immigration Office- Kakarvita, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal)
3. Immigration Office- Birganj, Parsa (Central Nepal)
4. Immigration Office- Kodari, Sindhupalchowk (Northern Border)
5. Immigration Office- Belahia, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal)
6. Immigration Office- Jamunaha, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid Western Nepal)
7. Immigration Office- Mohana, Dhangadhi (Kailali, Far Western Nepal)
8. Immigration Office- Gadda Chauki, Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur, Far Western Nepal)
1. Visa fee for visitors who enter Nepal for the first time in a visa year (Jan-Dec):
Duration: Single entry Visa for 60 days from the date of entry
Fee: US$ 30 or equivalent convertible foreign currency
2. Multiple entry facility can be obtained by paying additional US$ 50 or equivalent convertible foreign currency. The facility will be valid for a visa year (Jan-Dec) subject to the validity of visa period
3. Tourist Visa Extension:
A tourist visa can be extended up to 120 days from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara Immigration Office on request. Thereafter an additional 30 days can be extended from Department of Immigration ensuring that tourist visa cannot be extended more than 150 days.
VISA EXTENSION FEE:
1. Tourist visa extension fee for 30 days: - US$ 30 in equivalent Nepalese currency.
2. Tourist visa extension with multiple entry facility:
Multiple entry facility can be obtained by paying additional US$ 50 or equivalent convertible foreign currency. The facility will be valid for a visa year (Jan-Dec) subject to the validity of visa period
3. Late fee for not applying extension in time:-
US$2 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the first 30 days
US$3 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the next 31 to 90 days
US$5 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for more than 90 days
4. Gratis Visa:
*Children below age of 10 yrs
*Dependants up to the age of 16 years, holding foreign passports of Nepalese parents or
either of their parent being a Nepalese citizen.
*Citizen of Nepali origin, after having obtained passport for the first time from a Nepal
based foreign mission, until the period of his departure to a foreign country.
*Citizens of member countries of South Asian association for Regional Cooperation
(SAARC) and the People’s Republic of china
*Any foreigner, who has lived in Nepal up to fifteen (15) days continuously, re-entering
Nepal during the same visa year
*Any foreigner, tourist entering into Nepal for three days or less than that.
FACTS:
• A tourist may stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year (Jan-Dec).
• A tourist must extend his/her visa before expiry of the visa validity period. A tourist who does not comply with these regulations may be liable of fine and other prosecution as provided in Immigration Act and Rules.
• A Foreigner having obtained tourist visa shall not be allowed to work with or without receiving remuneration.
• A foreigner shall not be allowed to carry out any work other than that for which purpose she/he has obtained the visa.
TRAVELING BY AIR
You can get direct flights to Kathmandu from Bangkok, Sharjah, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Karachi, Seoul Korea, Osaka, Shanghai Japan, Paro Bhutan, Lhasa, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Varanasi. All flights feature economy and business class and amenities of international standards. International Airlines operating regularly in and out of Nepal are: Nepal airlines (National flag), Thai International Airways, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, Saudi Arabian airlines, Indian Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Biman Bangladesh, Gulf Air, Air Sahara , Jet Airways, Austrian Air, China south east airlines, China air, Druk Air. Airfares are to be paid in foreign currency by foreign nationals. Only Nepalese and Indian nationals are permitted to pay in local currency i.e. rupees for air passage between Nepal and India.

All visitors entering Nepal by land must use given entry points.

Airport departure taxes at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) and other domestic airports.

DOMESTIC FLIGHT SERVICES
Nepal domestic airlines such as Nepal airlines, Buddha Air, Cosmic Air, Gorkha Airlines, Sita Air, Agni air and Yeti Airways provide regular and charter services to various domestic destinations. There are many airports in remote areas of Nepal where flights can fly only in dry season. Chartered flights and helicopters can be arranged for any destination of Nepal.
For Sri Lankan Pilgrims visiting to Lumbini:
Single Entry Visa: US$ 10 or any other equivalent convertible foreign currency for 15 days.

Tourist Visa:
Entry: A Visa is necessary to enter Nepal and can be obtained for the following duration from any Royal Nepal Embassy or Consulate or at the entry points. 60 days (Single Entry) US$ 30.00, 60 Days (Double Entry) +US$ 55.00, 60 Days (Multiple Entry) +US$ 90.00
Re-entry facilities in tourist visa:
Single Re-entry US$ 50.00, Double Re-entry US$ 75.00, Multiple Re-entry US$ 110.00 for 30 days.
Note:
Re-entry facilities should be used within the validity of the visa period. It is not considered as a visa extension. Reception counter will provide all kinds of forms free of charge. The citizens of China are requested to get their entry permit from China, since the entry points of Nepal will not provide Chinese Citizens with entry visa. Re-entry visa within 150 days of the same visa year costs US $ 50 for 30 days. Visa extension for 30days US $ 50 or equivalent local currency.
Visa Extension:
A tourist visa can be extended at the Department of the Immigration Office for a total of 30 days by paying US $ 50 in local currency. In one visa year (January to December) a tourist may not stay in Nepal longer than cumulative 120 days.
Note:
For the visa extension, please attach a copy of photograph with the application form.
Late fees for Tourist Visa:
US $ 2.00 in equivalent Nepalese Currency per day for the first 30 days.
US $ 3.00 in equivalent Nepalese Currency per day for the next 31 to 90 days.
US $ 5.00 in equivalent Nepalese Currency per day for more than 90 days.
Trekking permit is not applicable / essential for general trekking route i.e. Annapurna, Langtan & Everest region.
Fee exemption:
Children under 10 years
Transit Visa:
A transit visa can be obtained from the Airport Immigration for a period of 48 hrs on the presentation of confirmed air ticket. Fee for Transit visa: US$ 5.00.
For Srilankan Pilgrims visiting to Lumbini:
Single Entry Visa: US$ 10 or any other equivalent convertible foreign currency for 15 days.
