Tengboche Monastery Trekking
|
The legendary peak of Everest dwarfs other mountains in many ways, from its legacy as mountaineering’s ultimate prize to the spiritual esteem in which the Sherpa people hold it. We set out on a magnificent 8-day trek through the ancient Sherpa villages cradled below Chomolungma, Mother Goddess of the Snows, culminating in our visit to thriving Tengboche Monastery, heart of the Khumbu, from which Everest’s triangular diamond summit is unmistakable amid a cirque of breathtaking peaks. Much of the joy of this spectacular trek is getting to know the Sherpa people, visiting Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and lively trailside teahouses, sipping homemade chang (beer made from barley) with new-found friends, and learning how Tibetan Buddhism influences every aspect of Sherpa life.
